Sunday Mornings: "Come, and be fed!"
Beginning September 14, come and grab some breakfast in the Parish Hall around 10:00 a.m. and visit with your family and friends. You will also have a couple of opportunities to grow in your own faith and knowledge:
1) Join Fr. Jay or Fr. Mike at the “Get to Know Us” table to learn more about the traditions of the Episcopal Church and St. Helena’s.
2) Join our C.S. Lewis corner. This is a small group book study and discussion led by a leading authority on C.S. Lewis. The group will begin with a book study on The Screwtape Letters. If you need a copy, please contact the church office.
Wednesday Evening Formation
Beginning September 10, join us at 5:30 p.m. for worship in the Historic Sanctuary, followed by dinner at 6:00 and breakout sessions at 6:30. This is a six-week offering, and you can choose from the following opportunities:
1) The Mission of God’s Church
Led by Dr. Eric Covington
This six-week class will examine biblical foundations of the Church’s mission. It will look at how the Church’s mission mirrors Christ, how the Church is called to translate the Gospel in deed and word, and how the “nations” have been the focus of God’s redemptive plan from the beginning of Scripture.
2) The Unexpected Evangelist
Led by the Rev. Jay George
We Episcopalians are not known for our evangelism. But neither were many of the people we encounter in the Gospels. These unexpected evangelists reveal that evangelism might be something other than we’ve been led to believe. Using Scripture; Michael Frost’s book, Surprise the World; and his own experience, Fr. Jay will invite us into a new and different understanding of evangelism. We will learn how we, too, might be unexpected evangelists.
3) Theology of the Mountain
Led by the Rev. Mike Woods
Mountaintops have deep symbolic meaning throughout Christian scripture. They are places of encounter, revelation, testing, covenant, and transformation. In scripture, God also reveals Godself in places of height, challenge, and vision. Through study of scripture and small group conversations, this class will help participants trace this thread, explore its theological meaning, and apply it to their own spiritual lives.
